Eddie’s comment. Matt Freedman, owner of IT Company’s Redback Solutions and Stick Tickets and my super Fab sponsor invited me to do a long run. He said come stay with my wife Bec and I in Sydney and do
the Half Marathon. I agreed and it came around quick so off Alesha and I went. We had our carb loading dinner in an Italian Pasta place at Crows Nest along with Luke & Kelly. A fun night of silliness followed and I was naughty and had a glass of Red. I got even more silly & naughty thereafter. It was a great easy run very, picturesq after we missed catching up with Irish Richie, Matts mate at the start. We ran past Richie somewhere in the 21kms. Not a great prep was done by Matt as the day before he flew back from a 9 day Thailand holiday of partakin
g in beer and sun. Matt who is 9ft tall or higher gave me co
nstant weather updates when his head was in the clouds whilst ducking here n there when jogging over the bridge. Matt did become very unsociable around the 11km mark onwards even after I was having fun making jokes with some ladies who were lifting their jumpers up of their bottoms and giving Matt and I a wiggle. I had a big giggle as they did but not Matt. Matt was feeling a bit unfab. Lets say unprepared, due to the beer n holiday. I decided to run ahead at each Aid Station as the heat got to all as there was no m
ugs with water and a huge line up. So I got Matt a jug and threw over him a big scoop of water and nearly washed him off the road. Really needed a lifejacket for him. At the next Aid Station he said he was now cool and only needed a
drink. I got him a plastic 2 litre jug, so here, he runs off drinking out of it. Everyone else with a little paper cup discarding theirs as they drink then Matt throws his jug when done and wipes some pot plants on the roadside. Ungroovy,
but funny. I saw a police man patroling an inte
rsection at Darling Harbour area and said give me a Hi-Five dude. And he did. I may need a cast for my broken arm now. I saw good mate James Rankin from Triathlon Photos.com at the Hyatt and hi-fived him and then got in trouble for wrecking another runners photo…This would not have happened if Matt was sociable. After the finish I met Kathy from Newie Tri Club and saw 14 hour day team assistant Peter Brown finishing the Marathon along with Paul Humphries from H Events. Paul saw me at my worst when I finished his Hunter Valley Run Festival Marathon sick and battered by Influenza. Today he looked not to different to what I did
back then just a fair bit younger me. I decided I should go ice my foot (Sezmoid bone) as advised by Physio Anthony Ingram of Regent St Physio at Lambton. Matt then took me to his wifes corporate tent where he gave them the sad news that Bec had torn her calf muscle and was not coming over the bridge. So rather than waste food I ate 3 serves of Croissants, bacon and eggs. Yum…So out of a positive comes a negative. No sorry that’s naughty.. I
mean on the positive side Bec gets lots of TLC this week and she can help Matt brush up on his social skills. Cool, Matt and Bec you are Fab. They have said that I am cheeky and welcome to come down anytime because Alesha is Fab which makes up for my silliness and cheekiness. Groovy, I agree to disagree. Actually after it is all said and done Matt says tah Eddie you are an inspiration mate. Now I feel how lucky I am to be around great true friends like him and Bec. On a big wrap note good friend Vanessa Parry-Williams ran the Marathon in 2hrs 59mins and is ranked numer 1 in NSW and 3rd in Australia. Great effort for the Caves Beach mum of 4. I still remember how she was my mum during my cert 3 in fitness year at TAFE as she drove me home lots along with my tutorial assistant daughters who scribed for me. So proud of you Vanessa you are an inspiration and a great mother and wife to Rob n kids.
